A Law Quad engagement session always feels a little cinematic to me. There’s the Gothic stone, the century-old trees, and that golden light drifting through the archways. It’s one of my favorite spots in Ann Arbor for a couple’s photos, and this one was no exception. There’s even a gorgeous library just across the street, so we have plenty to work with in one small area. Here’s a look at Rachel and Matt’s evening.

They shared with me that they were nervous about being in front of the camera. That’s more common than people think, and it never lasts long once we get moving. We spent a few minutes walking through the archways and across the lawn. By then, they’d almost forgotten I was there.

By the time we reached the open lawn, they’d stopped worrying about the camera entirely. They just warmed right up. This couple has some of the best energy, and it showed all evening. We were laughing and chit chatting just as much as we were shooting, which is exactly how I like a session to feel.
There was so much sweet laughter, especially at themselves. Honestly, it felt like hanging out with a friend rather than working a session. Some couples take a while to loosen up in front of a camera. This one didn’t need much convincing at all. That dreamy, hazy light didn’t hurt either.
I can’t wait for their wedding at Celestial Farms soon!
